"2005 Rudius Wines Syrah Russian River Valley ($35) Deep ruby. Sexy, highly aromatic bouquet of raspberry, blackcurrant, smoked meat, vanilla and Asian spices. Pliant red berry liqueur flavors slowly gain sweetness with air but maintain a fresh, spicy character. Finishes sweet and persistent. This offers admirable clarity and verve for such flavor concentration, not to mention the 15.7% alcohol. This is the label of Jeff Ames, winemaker for Tor Kenward Family Wines." Steven Tanzer

VINIFICATION:

80% whole cluster fermentation with all wild yeast for both primary and malo-lactic fermentations. This wine is neither fined or filtered and are not racked until a month before bottling when blends are determined.

MATURING:

30-50% new French oak is sourced mainly from Francois Freres, Meyrieux and Ermitage. The wine is left in barrel for 11-15 months depending on vintage and wine.
