Today Leoville Las Cases comprises over 209 acres and has been run since 1950 by the Delon Family. The current director is the well known Michel Delon.

Chateau Leoville Barton

"The saturated purple-colored 2000 Leoville Barton is one of the greatest wines ever made at this estate. The wine has smoky, earthy notes intermixed with graphite, camphor, damp earth, jammy cassis, cedar, and a hint of mushroom. Enormous, even monstrous in the mouth, with tremendous extraction, broodingly backward, dense flavors, and copious tannins, this should prove to be one of the longest-lived wines of the vintage and one of the most compelling Leoville Bartons ever made." (Robert Parker, 4/03)

PRICE:
2000 750ml $200 (96 WA)

Chateau Leoville Poyferre

"This fabulous 1996 was tasted three times from bottle, and it is unquestionably the finest wine produced by this estate since their blockbuster 1990. Medium to full-bodied, with a saturated black/purple color, the nose offers notes of cedar, jammy black fruits, smoke, truffles, and subtle new oak. In the mouth, there is impressive fruit extraction, a tannic, full-bodied structure, and a classic display of power and finesse. The longer it sat in the glass, the more impressive the wine became. Backward, and massive in terms of its extract and richness, this should prove to be a sensational Leoville-Poyferre for drinking over the next three decades. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2028." (Robert Parker, 4/09)

PRICE:
1996, 1.5L $175 (93 WA)
1996, 750ml $88 (93 WA)

Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones found in the unique soil of the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate itself is comprised of 245 hectares, 100 of which are devoted to vine. The rest of the estate is devoted to parks and pastures, preserving the natural beauty of the land. The wines of Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou are known for finesse and elegance.

"The 2003 is one of the most compelling Ducru Beaucaillous made in the last quarter century! A brilliant tour de force!" (Robert Parker, 4/06)

"Floral notes intermixed with raspberries, black currants, minerals, and a hint of new oak emerge from the dense purple-colored 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou. The wine is sweet, dense, and medium to full-bodied, with undeniable elegance and finesse as well as a finish that lasts for 45+ seconds. A wine of remarkable symmetry, balance, elegance, and minerality, it is the Lafite-Rothschild of St.-Julien,. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030+." (Robert Parker, 4/03)

PRICE:
2003 750ml $1,900 case owc (96 WA)
2000 $190 bottle (94 WA)

Chateau Branaire Ducru

"Proprietor Patrick Maroteaux, president of Unions des Grands Crus Classes, is pulling out all the stops to make Branaire as alluring as several of the Leovilles and Ducru Beaucaillou. 2003 and 2004 may be the finest back-to-back vintages ever produced at Branaire. Even better than the 1982, the profound 2003 Branaire Ducru boasts a saturated plum/purple color as well as an extraordinarily complex nose of black currants, blackberries, espresso roast, white chocolate, minerals, and truffles. It displays amazing freshness and definition for such a complex, complete, and full-bodied wine. A brilliant effort in the vintage, it will undoubtedly close down in several years and need more time, but perhaps its low acidity and huge, extravagant fruit-forwardness will keep it drinking well over the next two decades. A brilliant wine!" (Robert Parker, 4/06)

"Displaying even more richness, depth, and power than it did last year, this opaque purple-colored 2000 offers a terrific perfume of wet gravel, sweet jammy black raspberries, cassis, violets, and subtle new oak. A wine of opulence, strength, richness, structure, purity, and depth, this is a fine Branaire. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025." (Robert Parker, 2/02)

PRICE:
2003 750ml $1,300 case owc (WA 95)
2000 750ml $125 (93 WA)

Troplong Mondot

The 95 vintage is powerful, well-structured with pronounced complex tannins, and deep aromas of truffles and blackberries that develop over time. Rich in the mouth, full without being hard, very elegant and fruity.

PRICE:
2000, 750ml $140 (95 WA)
1996, 750ml $85 (92 WA)
1995, 750ml $95 (93 WA)

Graves

Chateau Haut-Brion

The venerable Château Haut-Brion's history can be traced back through many centuries, to an era when First Growths along the banks of the Gironde were mere fortresses encompassed by uninhabitable marshland. In 1935 the American financier Clarence Dillon purchased the property for 2,350,000 francs following the tumultuous years of depression which had led to many properties being put up for sale. Allegedly Dillon was also considering Cheval Blanc and Ausone but got lost in the fog and never reached those destinations. Good thing for Chateau Haut-Brion.

“The prodigious 1989 Haut-Brion is one of the greatest first-growths I have ever tasted.” (Robert Parker, 2/97)
