Barterhouse provided all the wines for a really fun event featuring one of the top Burgundian domaines you may never have heard of.
Denis Bachelet makes some of the greatest expressions of Charmes- Chambertin around. He took over the family domaine in 1983. Bachelet, a perfectionist, prefers to work by himself to have complete control over his terroir. Low yields, destemming and new oak are used for his flagship wine, Charmes-Chambertin. The wines are kept on the lees for as long as possible, and hand bottled without filtration. The Bachelet style is of intensity mixed with elegance and grace. The wine has a beautiful feminine subtly with underling power and complexity. The Charmes is his highest achievement. It is both harmonious and pure.
It was a delicious event of great food and classic Burgundy. Terrance Brennan's French brasserie Artisanal was the perfect setting to stage this homage to fine French wine and cuisine.
